Food isn’t just about taking nourishment into your body… it’s an entire artform!

I am not a chef or a professional cook, but for as long as I can possibly remember I’ve always enjoyed food (cooking, eating, learning about ingredients, recipes, etc.). My parents owned a bagel store & deli when I was a kid so I was always surrounded by these things growing up. Aside from my mom and dad allowing me to roll out the perfect mini bagel from time to time at their business, I craved to do more on my own. I must’ve been about ten years old when I cooked my first meal (boiled frozen ravioli and oven-baked tator tots with Garfield-stamped sugar cookies for dessert). Hey, you have to start somewhere and fortunately I didn’t burn down the house, lol.

While other girls thumbed through fashion magazines, I was busy checking out the latest recipes in my mom’s ‘Betty Crocker’ and ‘Better Homes and Gardens’ cookbooks. I feel that cooking can also be therapeutic at times. On some of my most stressful days my friends, family and coworkers have benefited with cookies, cupcakes, soups, casseroles, etc. With that being said, cooking is also extremely fun and creative. Potlucks are some of my favorite get-togethers because it gives me the opportunity to experience a whole slew of dishes and gather new ideas.

Although I’ve acquired the basics throughout the years, I still look to established recipes as my starting point. I alter things here and there once I find a foundation. It makes me feel a little more comfortable because I certainly don’t want to make myself or anyone else sick by experimenting completely…at least not yet. I’m sure that I’ll get there eventually! Therefore, most of the cuisine you will find within my blog has been introduced to me via recipes which I’ve found through variable sources of professional chefs, brand name food products or more rooted cooks than myself. Sometimes I’ll follow the recipe to a “T” and other times I’ll tweak things where I feel the need to. I should also mention that I’m lactose intolerant. So wherever dairy products are used, I will try to substitute them with lactose-free items.

I’d like this blog to be as entertaining and gratifying for you to read as it is for me to write. Please feel free to leave comments on the individual posts or contact me with your general thoughts, questions, etc. In addition, if you have any specific recipes that you’d like me to try out, let me know. I look forward to adding new content as often as I can!
